At the beginning of the 18th century, a caravan of 40 Norekyan ancestors left Artsakh, the 10th province of the Kingdom of Greater Armenia, to travel more than 400 kilometers towards the village of Shnogh. They traveled with their cattle and property in search of new places to graze. Upon arrival of the first newcomers in Shnogh from far away they, were named Norekats, where "nor" meant "just" and "ekats" meant "came". Norekats became the surname of the ancient Norekyan family.
The journey of the caravan did not end there. The travelers went through the village of Teghout and climbed into the mountains to live in caves and graze their cattle. As the family grew and there was not enough space in the rocky caves, they went down the mountains to Teghut, built a house, and stayed there.
Thus, the insight of people from Shnogh, who called the travelers Norekats, was confirmed many times. The ancestors of the Norekyans traveled hundreds of kilometers in search of a better place to live.
